Keeping Game Easy (Samstag)
The UCB Theater teaches a style of improv based on "finding the game", and Chris is a big believer in it. But he also believes that game also leads to people putting a lot of pressure on themselves, that it can make scenes feel heady and mathematical, and that it can make scenes feel like they have a pass/fail quality. It doesn't have to be this way!
In this workshop, we'll think about the idea of game as a bit simpler, a bit more amorphous, and with a focus on it being a tool instead of a goal. Specifically, we'll look at game's potential to be a language improvisors speak that the audience doesn't, and how game can be a great tool to clean up all the potential pitfalls that happen when scenes are at their beginnings.
